You are showing consideration for your invitees by allowing them enough time to set aside the date and shop for an appropriate gift. Generous lead time also allows you opportunity to invite alternate guests if some initial invitees are unable to attend. The invitations should go out no later than two to three weeks prior to the date. If you take into consideration the busy schedules of most people these days, particularly parents, four to six weeks advance notice would be even better and probably appreciated. Many of your guests most likely are busy young parents themselves with sporting events, play dates and family obligations to contend with.
